09 Flames have spots; 09 Islanders may have 1 or 2 open; reach out to the coaches ASAP if you haven\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t already. 07s...I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'m not going to tell you to not reach out, but I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'d say chances there are minimal.
It\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s still Jan. for another day. Do you have players in both organizations? Just curious what info you would have at this point that would allow someone to know you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'re stating fact? How do you know there are spots open?
Anyone who has a kid in \\\\\\\"elite\\\\\\\" youth hockey, who isn\\\\\\\'t an a**hole and talks to people, has a general idea what teams have spots, or don\\\\\\\'t, at that age level. Having said that, however, \\\\\\\"Reach out to coaches ASAP\\\\\\\" is as basic a fact as there is, and is advice the OP should take, if he hasn\\\\\\\'t already.
Got it, so you don\\\'t really know, understood.
And you\'re the a**hole.
The OP was looking for honest info, which is very hard to come by on this page. I don't understand why everyone needs to be an expert with an Elite player. I simply asked how you know since you stated very clearly that there were spots on both teams. Not sure how that translates to me being an a**hole but whatever works for you I guess.
Having gone through the process already with one of my sons if a team is 500 they will be looking to upgrade kids.

One would think but still speculation. It was stated that there were openings, that's my only point. The information was speculative but presented as fact. I wanted to know if there were solid facts behind the statement but by the answer I understand there were not, just speculation. Everyone wants to be an expert! Some actually come here for real info not knowing what this board is all about.

Honestly all anyone can do is speculate, even if you have players on these teams so to jump down someones throat looking for facts that don't exist is very much a d-bag move.

Parents seldom tell anyone what their plans are, especially if they are leaving program. Two years ago, parents that I've known for 3 years, dinner's at each others house, hang out in the off season, etc. looked me in the eye and lied about what they were doing for "next year". The are no facts with any team until the coach sends out the roster.

You seem new to this whole youth hockey thing. As a parent of an 09 05 and 99, let me share an observation with you. I won't claim it's a "fact" so as to not offend you. The poster you are responding to clearly has a kid on one of the teams, and by squirt minors, knows parents and kids all over the league, and has heard from OTHER parents (i.e., "friends") about the other team. Anyone in that situation, or yours, knows that information is subject to change with no notice, and may or may not be accurate by the time you hear it given the specific coach's agenda (if you're interested in a given team, in other words: "Reach out to coach ASAP"). No one REALLY knows anything about these things until cuts and/or the roster are officially announced. Most likely, the poster is passing along his best estimate of the situation at the moment - again something that 99% of hockey parents understand.

So why not explain it like you did then? Why state that open spots were there if it's anything less than 100%? Nobody is offending me with this, I am not new to this either. I knew exactly what the poster meant but maybe the OP didn't. I thought I'd ask for clarification so the OP could understand that the fact of the matter is there is no clear information. And as one of the other posters mentioned, you can have team families in your own home multiple times and still be lied to. Such a shame for kids 10 and 12 that the parents need to make it like it is.

For chist sake the team is a middle of the pack team, there are spots available. If your kid is better than what they have they will take you. End of discussion

Not my post but that ^^ was an a-hole response to someone who was offering some information whether it was accurate or not, who knows. Reaching out to coaches is preferable anyway to looking for advice on this board in most (but not all) cases.

I get you, but if everyone here didn't want to be an expert or admitted they don't have 100% knowledge it would make those who are looking for actual guidance have easier decisions to make. Unfortunately everyone thinks they know it all!

Islanders org only cares about the Elite teams and there’s a slim chance of making those teams unless tour God. Look elsewhere !

Re: Flames and Islanders Tryouts

My son is a Flame but not those years. In my experience by the time you get to the official tryout period there are very few spots left. Kids have already been skating at practices. Coach knows who is being cut. Most of the team will be built by then.
