Re: How Long Can MA Rinks Stay Open Without Games?
MA is now into their 5th month without hockey games in the state. How long can these rink owners keep the doors open without revenue from men's league and youth hockey games. It will only get worse when schools stop writing checks for ice starting in November. We are just a few weeks away from the end of camps, clinics and skills sessions. The shift in revenue will move back to traditional youth hockey by the end of this month. If rinks close how many will not reopen? How many programs will be crushed by these closures?
Since most of the rinks in the state are owned by the Commonwealth or municipalities, I think they'll be fine. I'm sure FMC and others have struck a deal with state to adjust their payments based upon a revised revenue model. Newer, privately owned rinks that are heavily leveraged like Attleboro or Essex I could see having some real issues though.
