No ice time problems. 3x3 is small ice so 2 teams play at once at each end blue line in.
3x3 you don't use the benches. The remaining 3-6 players are spaced outside the blue line on their half of the ice. In case this is new to you the nets are facing each other in a few feet from each half wall. This is done at all levels, even pro. Players love it.
Face-offs you'd have to get creative. Maybe just skip them and starts plays with possession. It could be done.
It is actually more simple than that. Just let them play, stop worrying about things you have no control over, the kids will figure it out long before us old farts that are set in our ways.
get a gaiter style mask.
Very simple to pull up over mouth and nose once your gloves are off. Will need to allow an extra second for centers to pull it up prior to faceoff and it will inevitably fall down almost immediately after the faceoff for the centers, which is good.
On the bench you pull it up, when you want it down cause you're jumping on the ice you simply stretch your neck and look to the sky, the mask will fall down.
It's really simple guys, lets not make a mountain out of this.
Any word on goalies? I assume same bench rules and no mask while on the ice?
Who is going to actually control the action on the ice? This may work for 12U and younger, but if the refs need to stay 6 feet away from all players, coaches, etc. AT ALL TIMES the refs won’t be able to do it. In order to stay 6 feet away from all players refs will most likely not be able to enter the offensive zone during game action. They will most likely need to stay in the neutral zone and away from the sideboards in order to also stay 6 feet away from the benches.
Who is going to breakup any extracurricular action in front of the net or in the corners after the whistle? Are the coaches going to come off the bench or do the refs just keep pressing the button on their hand whistles hoping the players just stop on their own? What happens if kids start punching each other? The refs will need to just stand there and watch and hope an all out brawl doesn’t breakout. If you think these are not serious concerns you haven’t been watching much 14U-18U hockey lately.
