Actually, they are doing just the opposite of the rink owners and why??? $$$$$$

The owners of the leagues and rinks know this is BS but need to get that ice sold.

The owners of most of the rinks is the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and given the billions in lost tax revenue, I can find no flaw in your argument.

Re: Essex County Soccer Association (ECYSA)

Kids need to be active with their friends and teammates. ZERO deaths in MA for kids under 19. Notice how the State doesn't report deaths by age anymore? That hurts the the spread of fear porn about schools and youth sports.

I'd say the cowards and sheep are the decision-makers in an organization that let's uninformed bureaucrats institute rules that are absurd on their face for the sport which they govern.

Was there any pushback at all from Mass Hockey when they were told that nine-year-olds would be responsible for removing a face covering during play while wearing hockey gloves and full-cage helmets? The almighty dollar triumphs over reason and sanity. I give the soccer league credit for having the wherewithal to admit that the rules and compliance issues ruin the experience of the sport.

The deep state dirty secret is that the recent state rules are meant to kill HS sports, especially FB, and not necessarily because of the sports themselves but because of everything that surrounds HS sports; the event, the parties, the gatherings, etc. This is why the new rules resemble nothing of what the rules were in the summer for all the sports. Doesn't anyone find it odd that soccer was cool for the summer, without issue, but suddenly now everyone needs to wear masks? They needed to create especially restrictive rules to make sure FB canceled their season. The rules released last Thursday were so restrictive that the MIAA thought no way do these pertain to us, and then got the shocker last night at the meeting with the DESE. FB season canceled, well effectively canceled they delayed it until 2/21 which is a joke. Youth sports are getting caught up in this. The board was hoping the MIAA and school districts would just cancel Fall sports but they've been fighting against that.

Dear ECYSA Members,

As promised, I want to give you an update on the results of tonight's ECYSA Board Meeting.

At tonight's meeting we discussed the 11 towns that had already opted out of fall travel season, additional towns still in consideration, and the impact of the 10 towns rated Red and Yellow in the Commonwealth's new ranking system. In addition, we reviewed feedback from some medical professionals, the trend of Covid-19 cases in Essex County, and the modifications to the game mandated by MA Youth Soccer.

All of these factors have led the board to the very difficult decision of not continuing with the planning and scheduling of the Fall 2020 ECYSA League Season.

We made this decision for a number of reasons:

The increasing cases of covid 19 in Essex county
The increasing number of ECYSA member towns rated Yellow and Red
The decreased value of playing with the significant modifications to the game turning soccer into what one member described as "a game of keep away."
The overall complexity of implementing and enforcing all of the mitigation and changes throughout the league.
no comparison, soccer is a bunch p*ssies

The difference is these are volunteer associations and not for profit businesses. The volunteers are not going to sell this as roses.

Re: Essex County Soccer Association (ECYSA)

They got it right, the significant changes and modifications to the rules make it a waste of time. For ice hockey - no contact, immediate whistles for any scrum, a center having to wear a mask, all players wearing a mask while resting on the bench, and finding a way to stay 6' apart on the bench. I would vote for riding it out with maybe one or two practices per week.

But they made similarly ridiculous rules for baseball and the games have continued. Masks for batters and runners are rules, as is social distancing on the bench, yet most club teams just routinely ignore them now, as do umps.

Many of the new hockey rules are similarly untenable. It doesn't mean take your ball and go home. Get the games going and gradually the rules that can't be enforced or go against the nature of the sport will get ignored, as they should. Just like kids playing in packs now who didn't leave their houses in April. It's hard to stop a moving train.
