Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

New to the area..
Is it just me or have you noticed the further downcape you get the worst the programs get.

We weren't very impressed with the quote elite teams on the cape either.

They really didn't seem like the skill was not vastly different than the cape AAA teams we got offers from.
Amost a pay to play thing. I don't know maybe I'm wrong Just seem that way.

We ended up picking a team off cape after all the tryouts.

The level of play was faster and the players were noticeably more skilled.

We're grateful to have made it but my boys are not going to the NHL they're definitely higher level players but we need to be realistic.

Am I missing anything? Are there any programs on the cape that are worthwhile?

We went from Falmouth to Orleans.
And we did E9 and PHL thunder lightning Seahawks... Was not impressed at all.

Again The town " A " hockey programs were not very different from the "elite"programs As far as skill level goes so I didn't see the point in paying extra money.Seems better playing town hockey than what I saw on the elite teams on Cape.

I'm missing any teams and if I am please let me know.

We're going to be doing a lot of traveling this season.. I'd like to stay on the side of the bridge if we can find a quality program that I might be overlooking

What's your idea of a good team? If it's wins and loses then you're mis-guided. A good coach is capable of helping players reach their full potential regardless of the team or league. The Cape has it's fair share of quality coaches. The Cape does not have the talent pool to stand up to off Cape programs though, in terms of wins and loses.

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

The Cape population isn't very large and there's a large number of retirees...not exactly a huge pool to draw from. Also NOBODY is driving over the bridge onto the cape for youth hockey.
for the sake of sanity stay on the cape/avoid the traffic and find a good coach

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

New to area...yeah right, it sounds more like you and your kid have tried and been run out of every program on the Cape. I'm not saying it is the best caliber of play, but there are plenty of programs on the Cape that provide a solid youth hockey experience for many, at 1/2 the price or less. If you want something different, go off-Cape and be happy about about it rather than complaining that you are doing it.

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

05 Hurricanes killed everyone. Best coached team the Cape ever had. Not trolling. Coach was a nut. He pushed those kids. Always a tough place to play also. Miss that team

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

Drive up to Kingston to the bog & play for the Breakers

Killed everyone ?

Until they went to the FED as the bandits and went 0-30 and the coach had to apologize and finally admit that they were not as good as they thought and were in way over their head at that level.

You sound silly.

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

Lmao till they came over bridge and played fed elite. Haha. Coach looked silly

Seriously, STFU! Your crotch fruit isn’t that good. Get over yourself...idiot! You’re overlooking nothing except the part where you need attention.

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

You need to get a life u looser

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

No your right. Cape programs are a joke I moved my mediocre player off Cape at the Peewee level because he had a lot of desire but his skills weren't there. The more sophisticated coaching, programs off cape recognized his potential and cultivated it and he got picked up by a great prep school. The other thing that impressed me is they had independent coaches no coach had a kid that played on the team that makes a huge difference.

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

What I tell my player is work hard and be so good they can't ignore you.

The point is it shouldn't matter what program you're in or what team you on.

If you get cut from a team work harder.. If you're on a good team strive to be the best on that team and be the best team player you can be.Earn your rice time.

Don't blame the coaches don't blame the politics. We got to roll with that stuff..

keep your head down and get to work. If you let any of the above get the better of you then that's on you.

Yes there's something to be said for being "seen" and all that other stuff but the majority of youth players out there are average at best and they're not going to go to the NHL.
All we can do as parents is to guide our kids to work toward their goals in spite of any perceived obstacles that might be in the way. Its YOUR puck.. GO GET IT!

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

How is the lower cape coyotes program?
I hear they have a new coach Barry something. Good with skills they say.

Re: Why are Cape Cod hockey programs so bad

If you live on the cape, nobody cares north of Plymouth. Those Vinyard Vines polos might be a little to tight in the collar or maybe the boat shoes but your kid just isn’t that good.

Uhhh people who live on the cape year round can’t afford any of those things
