I worked on the slingshot yesterday with my mites and they actually did it well. Some parents might think it’s overkill but I think it will set our pp up for the future. Thoughts?
As long as you only put your elite mites on the PP line you will be all set. The rest either need to earn their way on or pay more in tuition to see the ice in clutch situations.
Not sure if the slingshot is the right PP for mites you should teach them the 1-3-1 power play this formation has become the go to power play system for most high level teams. Almost every NHL team is using the 1-3-1, so there must be a reason. The reason? The 1-3-1 has the ability to spread players out inside the zone, keep a player in front of the net at all times, and place shooters in key positions so they can shoot off the pass. Would love to see your team carry out the PP, what organization is your team?
As long as the coaches kid is on the PP, we're all set. Maybe net front or in the Bumper position. He can line him up at the dots once he gets his slap shot down.
I remember the good old days of mites.. dynamic zone entries, 1-3-1 power play. Support, recognition and accountability.
We had it all
Good old USA hockey
Agreed! It’s a travesty mite hockey has now transitioned into come drills, stations, and cross ice
Whats next an 8 year old checking fourth line with enforcers?
We have a 3rd line that has just rough kids. Not calling them a checking line but they are leased skilled kids that I train to be strong. When they are on the ice we run an aggressive
2-2-1 FC system where we get 2 guys on puck with 2 guys in close support. 1 dman play it safe but usually doesn’t matter because they just create turnover after turnover.
Cross ice for Mites is the only way to go. Absolutely a waste of a full sheet of ice to put a Mite game out there. It would be similar to putting a college game on an entire football field sized sheet. It would be better to run three / four games at the same time on cross ice and let the kids play for three hours instead of wasting a sheet on 10 skaters.
Forget about the PP systems at mite. Guys their is no way a mite is working on PP. Its unfortunate that grown adults would let a mite team run systems. This needs to be reported to the EHF and the E9 directors.
