Just curious as to what parents are paying for tournaments. The coach charged each of the 15 families \\\$230 (No jerseys required) for tournament a few weeks back. Thats a total of \\\$3450. Tuition was \\\$1800. Not saying the coach shouldnt make a profit but not sure the coach is worth over \\\$1500.
The new rate is between 225-275.
2-3 years ago it was 175-200.
Remember summer tournaments are about the teams/programs making money.
Keep in mind, there are expenses to running a team. Insurance, website, jerseys, travel, and it is not cheap. If you don’t like the price find another team…
I've been paying $230-250 per tournament for the bigger tournaments (CCM tournaments, K-Cup, Showdown), which is typically $100+ over entry cost/kid. This doesn't get us a jersey or anything extra either. Seems like a decent markup to me.
My kid is a 2013 so still kinda new to the spring/summer tourney scene but quickly learning that its just another way for rinks/teams/owners to make some extra cash. The tourneys are more or less the same...playing the same teams +/- a few kids.

Paying for a couple spring summer teams for my kids.
2012. He gets 3 tourneys. 4 practices. Jersey and socks. All in for $900 with only 1 tourney requiring hotel.
2009. He gets 3 tourneys. 10 skill sessions/practices. Jersey, socks and some cheap swag. All in for $1250 but 2 tournaments are pricey overnights.

Let me say this: NEVER sign up for a spring/summer tournament team package.
Play a la carte and let your kid play with kids from different teams.
- They will make different friends and they will enjoy the different experiences.
- Tournament package teams are win focused only and from what I have seen, they generally don't do well in the standings.....yes, there are always exceptions.
$1500 sounds like the coach is taking in a lot for a weekend. Truth is the amount of admin and phone calls with parents in the leading month (s) is a lot. If you really break it down it’s not enough to deal with all the parents and extra work they put in.
All spring/summer tourney's are just money makers for all of these for-profit programs. Anyone that is telling you something different is just pulling your chain. Nobody is watching or caring who wins these things and you'll see as the years go on. From the "showcase" tournaments all the way down to regional tourneys, it's all a jam scam to pay for the owners vacation plans. it's just a major PIA to plan around these things, teams rosters are never "official" and your bender should play baseball or lax first. There are plenty of in-season touraments to do when it's cold and lousy out around these parts.
I couldn’t care less where the money goes. My kid loves tournaments. Great chance to meet different players and best of all have fun.
There’s nothing wrong with that
$255 for a tournament next week. Includes cheap jersey (no socks). Coach is profiting about $1000 which he will use towards cooler filled with IPA’s post games Saturday.
If you think the coaches that just show up with a roster and jerseys in hand are making any more than their $300 coaching stipend you clearly have not been around the rinks very long.

As someone who has been through it as a coach, and a parent with zero involvement.
This is al about FOMO, just like the rest of hockey.
Hold off, wait til a few days before when you get calls and invites because they need a player, and play for free or discount rate .
My kid probably did three tourneys a summer between u8 and u18 and we probably paid a total of 500 bucks for about 25 tourneys.
the same tourneys that were invite only, elite, showcase, etc...
My experience for a fairly well known spring/summer program in regards to the financial component can't be beat. They charge us $285 - we got full uniform to keep (jersey/socks...pretty good quality far from a $10 practice jersey, got one practice for those that could make it before the event, access to photos that the owners wife takes (no charge), and the coach offered all the players detailed feedback on their performance after the event. They treated the players well for a weekend summer event. I've been told this is the norm for how they operate. This was our first experience.
