Re: Hockey parents don't care what's best for their kids
Parents love dictating who is on the team, who coaches it, what line their kid is on, how many social media post they can put up. It’s not changing so get used to it. What’s best for the kid is determined by the parent, not the coach. If parents just asked the kid where they wanted to play, without mani****tion, they would get the truth. Instead we have parents planting the negative seed, asking the kid if he wants to play on a better team, or with better teammates. Unfortunately club youth hockey culture has taken over. The final product doesn’t change but the path to get there takes unnecessary turns & detours.
Re: Hockey parents don't care what's best for their kids
Seeing it get worse year by year is scary. Kids 2009 team lost 3 players for greener pastures going into this season. They thought they were going "develop" more with a team change. They also skated all summer, played in the "elite level" tourneys. Seeing them on the opposite side of the ice year it is easy to notice they are no better. Talking to the kids it seems like they aren't enjoying it as much either.

Stop being naive or holier than thou. There are really bad coaches out there that are as toxic as the parents.
Bad coaches, Bad parents, Toxic parents, Toxic coaches
Re: Hockey parents don't care what's best for their kids
Many parents are just looking for the next best thing. It's a completely clusterf*ck what is happening with teams because of the Q. Parents and coaches ruining it all.
Re: Hockey parents don't care what's best for their kids
True, but a lot of the parents have it in their head that their kids are the second coming of hockey and get p*ssed when they coach doesn't agree. Seems to be worse these days in the era of everyone gets a trophy.

There’s plenty of coaches out there that think this about their kid as well. Every power play and every key situation their kid seems to be on the ice. Their kid also gets left out there for 3 minute shifts.
Re: Hockey parents don't care what's best for their kids
The problem is parents pay too much attention on what other parents and kids are doing and then fear of missing out. Focus on your own kid and be the best parent you can be, you would not be bothered by what you described.

There does seem to be a lot of wanting the next best thing. No one seems to be happy with where they are and what they're doing. Always gotta be doing more to get ahead and get to the next level. No loyalty to teams anymore.

Re: Hockey parents don't care what's best for their kids
Replace "parent" with "coach" and you've hit the nail on the head. Replace "coach" with "organization" and you've got another winner.
The kids are always losing because of adults. Parents lose because they get duped by the ego of loser coaches. Everyone is getting ****ed by the greed of the owner.
