I happen to find this site while completing our Hischak Family Tree on Ancestry. I have over 800 old photos of our descendants from the Marcinko and Hischak families who lived in Nanticoke, Pa from 1904 to present. |

My mom was Judy Waypa, she was from Nanticoke she was born 1918. Her parents were Anna and Michael Waypa. And had 4 brothers and 3 sisters. I don\'t remember the name of the church she went to, I think it was a Ukraine church perhaps in Hanover. Does anyone know a Grey Weipa? |

I live in Warsaw, Poland. My name is Eva Straczynska. My grandmother's father left for America. He lived and worked in Nanticoke. In 1917, my grandmother took him to go, but the war broke out and she was in Poland. He was there. His name was James (Jakub) Gastoł. I do not know when he died. He was reportedly buried in a cemetery in Nanticoke.Maybe someone knew Gastoł family, or heard about it? Maybe the family Wyrobek says something to someone? Grandmother's last wish was that I found it. Regards |

I am trying to find the location of my mother's gravesite. She passed when I was 10 years old; I'm now 69 so it has been a long time ago. She was burried at Naticoke cemetary but, when I search for it on the web I can't locate any information on it. My dad never talked about her much and he too has passed. I don't know any of her relitives today. Her name was Merle Pollard and she passed in 1953. My grandmother's name was Howells. I believe she was buried in their family plot. If you could give me some info on that cemetary, I'd appreciate it. Maybe it does not have that name anymore. Thank You Joan Parrish |

I was born in Nanticoke General Hospital in 1953. My kindergarten teacher was Miss Mosier....she drove a yellow Metropolitan. I attended Washington Street grade school as well as Main Street School, Lincoln, JFK and the junior high school for 7th grade. I was born on East Main Street, lived @ 912 South Market, 55 West Broad which burned to the ground some years after we relocating to New Jersey. My friends were Bernie Washicowski (I was in his wedding), the Tragnanti girls, Jimmy Cyhoki, Frank Weiss and Bob Kearney just to name a few....so sorry if I've miss spelled their names. I last saw some of them in 1982. I last visited the town in 1992. My father Drew and brothers George and Drew are buried in Edge Hill and Hanover Green. My sister Cheryl and mother still reside in Florida. I still do have family in town but I've since lost contact with them. I have fond memories of hiking cross the railroad bridge and then up thru the woods to the red cliffs of Tilbury Nob which I last ascended in 1980. I also recall playing "army" in Concrete City (which I've found on various websites). In my late teens as with many teens from town, we used to go "drinking" out in the numerous strip mined areas. I recall after moving to NJ....I did a science project in high school (1968....imagine a high school having a class in Ecology back then) and I used pictures of the stripping holes filled with junk and the ground waters/creeks and ponds of pollution and mining runoff and with "Ball Jars" filled with gross fuilds collected from the area. My dad tended bar at the Coal Mine and Georgie Smiths and the Kreight Club. I was in Cub Scout Troop 517 (?) at the Methodist Church on East Main Street....lol. Yes indeed I have many recollections of my time spent in Nanticoke, but I must confess that with my mothers 2nd marriage and subsequent move to NJ.....that I grow to know were my true future was in my life and in my love life, in NYC for 22 yrs. I lived in Florida for many years; met my present husband there 13 years ago. We relocated to NH a few years ago but I hope to visit town again....sometime..... If anyone wishes to contact me via my email feel free to do so! |

This is my first Halloween in Nanticoke and I am upset. I had my babies first Jack-O-Lantern out for not even 5 hours before some punks came by and stole it. Things like that make the city look bad. People need to teach their children not to bother things that don't belong to them. |

I was just researching my family tree and found out my Great Grandfather was born in Nanticoke in 1880. His name was Arthur Llewelyn James. His Father (Llewelyn James) emigrated from Wales as he was a coal miner. They returned to Wales though after he was born so I don't think I'd have any relatives there. It was nice to read about your city though and to feel a connection even though I'd never heard of you before! |

why cant the park here in nanticoke be used for more than a music fest or the heritage fest. for instance why cant there be a flea market held there on saturdays. farmers market. this has been tryed before, but has anyone actully went to the farmers market in wilkes-barre and asked the farmers there if they would be interested? plymouth has the kielbosa fest, what do we have? how about a pierogi fest, food competion's like the best chicken wings, the best chili dogs, the best bbq and so on. lets use the park for more than it is. |

My Mom's family is from Nanticoke (Hanover Section - Pizont Family and my Dad's family -(Garbo) Garbaravage was from Sugar Notch) I lived in Nanticoke until I was ten and then came back every summer to stay with my Gram until I was 16. Hay Sissy and Barb remember the walks up to the 1st & 2nd reservoirs, ice skating and just being out in the snow. My Mom and I live in Florida now and it is very hard to get excited about putting a bow on a palm tree for Christmas! I miss those mountains! |
