My Uncle, Dennis Thompson (Mothers Brother) was an RAF pilot who after the war made and repaired chess pieces for Hammond who I believe had a shop on the north side of Chelsea Bridge in London. As a young lad I often visited his flat in Kensington where he had a workshop with a very small lathe that that made spears and lances and a larger one that made what seemed to me \'huge \'oriental pieces that were each works of art.

I am new chess set collector. Currently I have an Austrian Coffee House set from about 1900; and English St. George set from about 1840; and a Russian Tsarist set from about 1910.
